GIST: Talented daughter of LAWMA cleaner gets scholarship to art school

An elderly cleaner who works with the Lagos State Waste Management Agency, LAWMA is set to have her daughter become a student of an art school after a recent encounter with the founder of an ArtHub.

The founder with Twitter handle @ceracerni shared the story of the chanced meeting with the woman and her daughter.

According to her, the woman’s little daughter is a talented artist who could not afford to go to school due to financial constraint.

So, in the spirit of marking International Women’s Day, she offered to enroll her into art school on a scholarship.

Taking to Twitter, @ceracerni tweeted;

”1). On this hot afternoon…. I was painting- when this elderly woman greeted me. I turned back and she was bending to greet me… so I kuku joined her and we were bending to greet each other.

2). She said she works for Lawma- being on the streets,watching me & my team at work everyday for more than a week now.And today she brought her daughter who has a sketchbook and always scribbles things on it to see a lady drawing on walls so as to encourage her….I was moved.

3). I asked the young girl her name, age and why she wasn’t in school. I also flipped through her sketch book and the first thing on the page was a drawing of a cat painted purple and I immediately had a nostalgia… I remembered drawing a cat in my primary school.

4). I chatted with her Mom for a while and we connected. See me speaking Yoruba like omo Ibadan Winking face with tongue. I know how my mom use to encourage me in my early beginnings too. I told her about the ARTHUB and how we can train her daughter to become an expert.

5). She asked where the location was and I told her Lekki. She said “ahh ówò yén màá pò gáàn o” and I told her not to worry that we will have a suitable arrangement. We exchanged contact and they left.

6). My manager and I had a discussion about it… and on this INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY…. We #ChooseToChallenge ourselves that Eniola will be our first Scholarship student. We will sponsor her training at the Ceracerni’s ARTHub till she becomes an expert.”
