BELIEVE ME!! Wizkid’s “Made in Lagos” Surpasses Burna Boy’s “Twice As Tall” On Spotify — Is It The Best Album Of 2020?
Wizkid is the single most influential artist in the music industry.
It won’t be forever, of course. But for now, Ayodeji “Wizkid” Balogun is the real deal. He continues to prove this as he hits new milestones every day, doing incredible things in the industry.
We’re talking of a man who, as an upcoming artist put out one of the best debuts of all time.
His classic “Superstar” released way back in 2011, is confirmed to be the best selling Afrobeats album of all time.
This is to show that Wizkid has been making bangers and selling albums, since when CD’s was around.
“Superstar” was rumored to have sold 5 million copies a year, which puts it in the 5x platinum range, according to US standards.
Now that CD’s aren’t around anymore, Wizkid is also showing his dominance and is the most streamed African artist of all time.
This, I must say, is no little feat, as streaming just got to Africa not too long ago.
Made In Lagos
Last year, two of the most important albums of the decade dropped. On the one hand we have Burna Boy, who after he lost a Grammy in 2019, went back into the studio to do an album that will win him a Grammy Award.
On the other hand is Wizkid, whose fourth studio album has been anticipated for almost four years. It was safe to say, everyone was expecting “Made in Lagos,” more than anything.
When Burna Boy dropped Twice As Tall, it leaped, debuting at Number one on the Billboard World Albums chart and having landslide streaming numbers in the first week.
Earlier this year, it won a Grammy. That feat alone makes it the single most important musical body of work from this era.
But then there’s Wizkid‘s “Made in Lagos” coming closely behind. Released a couple months after, MIL has now broken almost every record Burna Boy set with his album.
Yesterday, the unexpected happened as MIL surpassed Twice As Tall on Spotify, with a total of over 107 million streams.
With months apart, and 45 million behind, no one expected MIL to catch up that first.
Other albums, including Davido‘s “A Better Time” and Olamide’s “Carpe Diem,” although doing numbers, are not even in the race with “Made in Lagos” and “Twice As Tall.”
MIL is indeed a masterpiece!
Do You Think Made In Lagos Is Better Than Twice As Tall?
Let’s hear from you.
